dbSend update
I’ve been working on dbSend, it’s coming along, I still need to working on the design. I need to figure out the window designs and how the command line version is going to work.
dbSend
Encase you haven’t noticed. I’ve finally started back on dbSend.
dbSend lives!!
Ok… I’m lying… it will. When I get around to thinking about starting it up again… maybe… no I will. Just not sure when.
Weekend
Saturday we had the girlys over, today me and Darcy went up Hollywells park and feed the ducks, it appears I wasn’t the only one.
I was rather shocked by the fact a number of YouTube videos had been uploaded of the fireworks at Christchurch Park minutes after they happened.
Codeplex
I moved from Codeplex (Microsoft) to SourceForge. The main reason was the extra features. Anyway, I’ve removed all the downloads manually then put a request in for it to be deleted. However it takes 30 days to be deleted, 5 days remain until the death of http://dbsend.codeplex.com/. Remember, remember the 5th of November… V for Vendetta
Balsamiq
At work the web team are using a product called Balsamiq to create basic template designs for customers. It looks alright, the designs are a bit kiddy, but that’s the idea, it’s suppose to be quick designs, electronic sketches.
Seems alright, just not my cup of tea. It’s many designed for web designers, but it’ll do any time of form design, it’s good in the fact you don’t need to worry about programming language so you don’t have to worry about does Java have the same buttons (or whatever) as Visual Basic. One nice, feature, they have a iPhone support, ie, you can plan your iPhone apps.
The program was\is created by a former MacroMedia\Adobe employee, so, surprise surprise, it uses Adobe Air. So no worries about, does it work with Mac\Windows\Linux whatever the hell the kids play with nowadays, also allows an online version.
They do offer free versions for good causes, so might apply for a license… once I can get use to the darn thing.
softpedia.com
For some ruddy reason dbSend has got submitted to softpedia.com. I’m guessing it automated, but some of it looks too clean. So I’m not sure. Just in the process of cleaning it up, long with some dead links.
dbSend 2.0.0.2 – Bugs
Rather few errors in 2.0.0.2, mainly due to the new code, I’ve fixed alot of them ready for 2.0.0.3. I’ve also been updating the wiki, the idea is I’ll be able to link to it for end-user help guides. Still a long way off.
Change log for 2.0.0.3 (so far):
- Bug fix with the final screen – displays the password.
- Disable checking for updates
- Rework of deleting files\folders
- Bugfix for SIMS trusted login checkbox
- Bugfix on exit coding
- Added embedding of dbattach.log into main log
- Added confirm check when aborting
- Updated winlog and final message screen message (more details)
Still need to submit 2.0.0.2 to tree, still might skip it and go straight to 2.0.0.3. Oh and yes, I still need to actually do the FTPS bits, thanks for reminding me
dbSend 2.0.0.2
Just been finalising 2.0.0.2. I’ve installed Advanced Installer to make a msi installer. It’s not perfect, but it does the job.
Just in the middle of making the final build. I’ll upload the source code later on, it’s getting late.
New features,
- Docstorage detection bug – resolved
- Check for updates (on loading)
- Limiting to running 1 instance per .exe
- Improvement to GUI
- Can backup using a SIMS user
- MSI installer
Gone green…
A while ago I changed the site to a green logo, thanks go once again to David, well I’ve updated my Twitter logo. I’ve also added my WP login to SourceForge, good old OpenID
WordPress has added a auto-post thing of Twitter, so this should be my first test post on there using it.
I’ve pretty much only just got round to coding again, after my laptop was out for a few days while it got reinstalled, back to good old XP, plus a new hdd. Only C# Express at mom
I’ve re-down the GUI, for the… 3rd? 4th? time. Still not happy, but it’ll do until I can get the backend finished. Hopefully it’s better. Feedback please?
I’ve intergrated the code so it can you can now use SIMS SQL logins to backup SIMS\FMS ok. Like I’ve said before, trust Capita to have extra security. Also I’m working on more checks, this time at the start up, I don’t want to bog it down too much however, currently, version checking, which I might have limited to one a week and that it’s running from a local disc. Yes, you really do need to run it from a local disc, not because of a “flaw” in dbSend, no, not because of Crapita (as the fools call them*), but because Microsoft SQL doesn’t do backups to network shares, if you think about it, it makes sense, .bak files are large, normally so large you need the speed of hard drive, durr
* Capita as in Capita Children Services, as in SIMS. No comments about the other parts of Capita Group
